John Jordan (1769-1830) and Catherine
Dennis Jordan (1817-1896) and Sarah Brennan
Dennis was born in Ballon County, Carlow, Ireland, and died on 10 December 1896 at Throsby Street, Wickham. Sarah Brennan was born in 1817 and died 26 September 1906 at Throsby Street, Wickham. They married on 10 January 1837 in Carlow and having spent their married life together will spend eternity the same way, buried together in the Roman Catholic Section of Sandgate Cemetery. They emigrated aboard the ship SS Hope with their 2 sons, arriving in Botany Bay back on 29 January 1842.
His occupation is listed as “Ag Lab”. Denis acquired land on Mosquito Island (documented by State Records’ in their New South Wales Land Grants 1788-1963) which he farmed for many years before moving to Wickham. 6. Sarah Theresa Jordan, born 15 March 1848 Mosquito Island, died 1941 Wickham.
John Jordan was born on 30 May 1838 in Liverpool, Lancanshire, England, died 20 August 1924 at “Thurles”, 32 Union Street, Tighes Hill, and in 1867 married Mary Bryns (born 1845 Tipperary, Ireland, died 2 May 1908 Waratah).

Dennis Jordan and Sarah Brennan’s children included several multiple births :
- Unnamed born and died 1837 in Ireland.
- John Jordan, born 30 May 1838 Liverpool, Lancashire, England (baptised 3 June 1838 St Peter’s Priory Lancashire), died 20 August 1924 at his residence “Thurles”, 32 Union Street, Tighes Hill.
- Edward Jordan, born 1840 in England, died 1916 Coraki, NSW Following their emigration (arriving 29 January 1842), the couple had further children including:
- Martin Jordan, born 1843 Mosquito Island, died 1910 Newcastle.
- Catherine Jordan, born 1845 Ash Island, died 1915 Mayfield. Catherine married [1] Joseph Greenwood in 1871 and had 2 sons and then [2] William Delaney in 1877 and they had 5 children. One son was killed in WWI. Catherine died on 17 May 1915 and William on 13 Sept 1914 – buried Roman Catholic Section of Sandgate Cemetery.
- Sarah Theresa Jordan, born 15 March 1848 Mosquito Island, died 1941 Wickham.
- Thomas Jordan, born 22 May 1850 Mosquito Island, died 1934 Ballina.
- Margaret Jordan, born 1854 Mosquito Island, accidental death 1865, Mosquito Island. According to the Register of Coronial Inquests 1821-1937, “No. 18005, 17 January 1865, Mosquito Island, Margaret Jordan, Injuries accidently received”.
- Mary Ann Jordan, born 1854 Mosquito Island, died 1861.
- Bridget Jordan, born 1856 Mosquito Island
- Elizabeth Jordan, born 1856 Mosquito Island
- Ellen Jordan, born 1856 Mosquito Island, died 1914 Wickham.
- Unnamed female Jordan born 1859 Mosquito Island
- Dennis Jordan, born 1860 Mosquito Island
- Two unnamed Jordan children in 1860s. Tragedies for this family included infant mortalities andthe death of a daughter young and another killed in a cart accident. In addition, Dennis fell on bad times, evidenced by a Bankruptcy Insolvency notification which appeared in the Government Gazette on 13 December 1892, page number 10250. This Notice was followed on 23 February 1893 with the further Bankruptcy Insolvency Notice:-
Dennis and Sarah Jordan’s son John Jordan married Mary Bryns.

Edward Denis Jordan married Lillian Jan Croesein 1908 at Newcastle. Lillian was the daughter of Cornelius Croese and Jane Campbell Whitelaw). Children
- Mary Kathleen (Molly) (Sr Mary Thomas Jordan) born 1910 Moscheto Island.
- Henry (Harry) J Jordan born 1912 Moscheto Island.
- Edward Cornelius (Con) Jordan born 29 May 1913 Moscheto Island.
- Eric Jordan born 1915 Moscheto Island.
- Thomas Bernard (Bernie) Jordan born 1918 Moscheto Island.
- Bessie Teresa Jordan born 13 June 1920 Ash Island.
- Rita Lillian Jordan born about 1922.
- Bernard (Bun) Jordan. In 1930 Edward’s occupation is listed as Coal Trimmer. Residences I have located for him include: 1913: Mosquito Island 1930: 88 Maitland Road, Mayfield 1932-137: 126 Maitland Road, Mayfield 1943-137: 50 Elizabeth Road, Mayfield.
